ASTERIA Car Luxury | Self-Drive Cars, Vans and Motorcycles in Morocco
Last updated: 10 October 2026
Before confirming your reservation, please check the driver eligibility and document requirements below. Requirements may differ by vehicle and applicable insurance policy. The confirmed quotation and Rental Agreement take precedence for vehicle-specific conditions, subject to Moroccan law.
1. Minimum Age and Driving Experience
For standard self-drive cars, SUVs and vans, the minimum driver age is 22 years and the driver must have held a valid driving licence for at least two years.
Additional or stricter requirements may apply to specific vehicles, luxury or high-performance categories, vans with special licensing requirements, and insurance conditions. Any applicable difference will be communicated before the booking is confirmed.
2. Valid Driving Licence
Every driver must hold a current driving licence valid and legally recognised in Morocco for the category of vehicle being rented. The licence must remain valid throughout the rental period.
Drivers must meet any applicable category, endorsement and legal requirements. ASTERIA may decline to release a vehicle if eligibility cannot be verified.
3. International and Foreign Driving Licences
Visitors holding a foreign driving licence may drive only where that licence is recognised under applicable Moroccan law and any relevant international agreement. Depending on the issuing country, duration of stay and circumstances, an International Driving Permit (IDP), an official translation or additional evidence may be requested.
An International Driving Permit is not a substitute for the original licence. Residents and longer-term visitors must comply with any applicable Moroccan rules governing continued use or exchange of foreign driving licences.
4. Identification Documents
Moroccan residents may be asked to present a valid national identity card or other legally acceptable identification. International visitors may be asked for a valid passport and, when relevant, documents supporting their right to drive in Morocco.
The name on the driving licence and identity documentation must be consistent, and original documents may be required at pickup for verification. Copies are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
5. Additional Authorised Drivers
Only the renter and drivers explicitly authorised and recorded in the Rental Agreement may drive the vehicle. Every additional driver must satisfy the same applicable age, licence and identification requirements.
Additional-driver charges, if any, must be communicated and agreed before the driver is added. Allowing an unauthorised person to drive may affect insurance coverage and contractual liability.
6. Rental Deposit and Payment Requirements
A refundable security deposit or card pre-authorisation may be required. The amount varies by vehicle category, rental arrangement and risk conditions, and will be confirmed before the booking is finalised.
A payment card in the renter’s name may be required for certain rentals. Accepted payment and deposit methods will be communicated before confirmation. A security deposit is not necessarily the same as the insurance excess.
7. Luxury and High-Performance Vehicles
Premium, prestige and high-performance vehicles may carry a higher minimum age, longer driving-experience requirement, enhanced document verification, higher security deposit or additional insurance conditions.
No such additional requirement should be assumed to apply to every vehicle: the applicable requirements will be confirmed for the specific model before acceptance of the booking.
8. Motorcycle Rental Requirements
Motorcycles are available only when expressly offered and confirmed by ASTERIA. Riders must hold a driving licence legally valid in Morocco for the particular motorcycle category and meet any motorcycle-specific minimum age, experience, equipment and deposit requirements.
Motorcycles are not covered by the comprehensive own-damage insurance offered for eligible self-drive cars and vans. Applicable third-party liability insurance and the rider’s responsibility for damage to the motorcycle must be explained in the relevant booking and Rental Agreement.
Helmets and any legally required protective equipment must be used. Passenger carriage is allowed only where lawful and permitted under the rental conditions.
9. Vehicle Category and Passenger Capacity
The driver must hold the correct licence category for the vehicle and may not exceed its authorised passenger, luggage or load capacity. Any special legal requirements for particular vans or vehicles must be satisfied.
10. Pickup and Verification Procedure
Before vehicle handover, ASTERIA may verify the original licence, identity documents, booking confirmation, payment and agreed security deposit. Drivers should allow sufficient time for these checks and for the vehicle condition report.
If required documents or eligibility conditions are not met, ASTERIA may refuse handover subject to the agreed cancellation and refund terms and mandatory law.
11. Safe and Permitted Use
The vehicle may only be used for lawful driving by authorised drivers. Racing, unauthorised sub-rental, driving under the influence, reckless use and unauthorised travel outside Morocco are prohibited.
Any restrictions on off-road use, road conditions, geographical areas and cross-border journeys will be specified in the Rental Agreement.
12. Insurance and Driver Responsibility
Cars, SUVs and vans rented without a driver are covered by comprehensive motor insurance under the terms, limits, deductibles and exclusions of the relevant policy. Where an incident is attributable to the renter or an authorised driver, an applicable insurance excess may be payable under the Rental Agreement and Moroccan law.
For motorcycles, comprehensive own-damage coverage is not included; the applicable liability and coverage arrangements must be disclosed separately before booking.
Read our Insurance & Protection page for additional information.
13. Personal Data and Document Protection
Driving-licence and identity information is collected only where necessary for booking, eligibility verification, contract administration and applicable legal obligations. Handling of these records is governed by our Privacy Policy.
14. Questions and Related Information
If you are unsure whether your licence, age or driving experience meets the requirements for a specific vehicle, contact ASTERIA before paying a non-refundable amount or travelling to the pickup location.
These requirements should be read together with our Terms & Conditions, Insurance & Protection and Cancellation & Refund Policy.
