1. Overview
ASTERIA Car Luxury, operated by ASTERIA Car SARL in Morocco, provides vehicle-specific insurance information for self-drive rentals. This page explains the general approach to protection, claims and renter responsibility. The actual Rental Agreement, applicable insurance policy and mandatory Moroccan law govern each rental.
Insurance protection does not mean that every loss, expense or incident is covered without limits. The applicable vehicle, guarantees, insurance excess and key exclusions should be disclosed before rental confirmation.
2. Comprehensive Insurance for Cars, SUVs and Vans
Self-drive cars, SUVs and vans supplied by ASTERIA are covered by comprehensive motor insurance, subject to the policy applicable to the particular vehicle. This generally combines mandatory motor third-party liability insurance with applicable vehicle-damage guarantees.
The scope of cover, insured value, exclusions, claim conditions, deductibles and any optional guarantees can vary by vehicle. Comprehensive insurance is not a promise of unlimited reimbursement or zero renter liability.
3. Motorcycle Insurance — Important Distinction
Motorcycles, when expressly available for rental, are not provided with comprehensive own-damage insurance. The motorcycle must have the compulsory third-party motor liability cover required by Moroccan law, subject to its policy.
Damage to, loss of or theft of the rented motorcycle may therefore remain the renter’s responsibility to the extent legally attributable to that renter and enforceable under the Rental Agreement. Liability must be assessed based on the circumstances, supporting evidence and Moroccan law; it is not automatically unlimited merely because comprehensive insurance is unavailable.
Before a motorcycle booking is accepted, ASTERIA will communicate the applicable insurance scope, exclusions, any deposit, rider eligibility and relevant financial responsibilities.
4. Insurance Excess and Responsible Accidents
If an accident is attributable to the renter or an authorised driver, the renter may be required to pay the applicable contractual insurance excess, subject to the insurer’s policy, the agreed Rental Agreement and Moroccan law.
The excess amount, percentage or calculation method applicable to the booked vehicle must be disclosed before confirmation. Responsibility should be established through the incident documentation and relevant findings rather than assumed solely because an accident occurred.
5. Accidents Where the Renter Is Not Responsible
Where the renter is not responsible, the claim will be handled in light of the evidence, applicable insurance arrangements and any rights of recovery from the responsible third party.
A renter will not automatically be charged an insurance excess, depreciation, VAT or other unrecovered amount merely because ASTERIA has received less than full reimbursement from an insurer. Any claim against the renter requires an appropriate legal and contractual basis and evidence of liability.
6. Depreciation, VAT and Uninsured Costs
An insurer may apply a depreciation deduction to replaced parts or exclude certain amounts from its assessment. VAT may also be treated differently depending on the tax status and claim circumstances. Such insurance or tax treatment does not, by itself, establish what the renter must pay.
Where ASTERIA seeks recovery of a properly incurred, uninsured loss from a renter, the claim must reflect proven responsibility, an enforceable contractual or legal basis, reliable supporting documentation, any available tax recovery and amounts already compensated. No item will be recovered twice.
7. Vehicle Downtime and Documented Loss of Rental Income
If a covered rental vehicle becomes unavailable as a direct result of an incident for which the renter is legally responsible, ASTERIA may seek compensation for actual and reasonably documented net financial loss over the necessary and reasonable period of immobilisation, subject to Moroccan law.
Relevant evidence may include repair records, affected bookings, correspondence, rental history and accounting information. Avoided variable costs, replacement-vehicle revenue, recoveries from third parties and any insurance compensation for the same loss must be considered.
The daily advertised rental rate multiplied by the number of days out of service does not by itself prove the amount of loss. ASTERIA will not charge unjustified delays or recover the same loss twice.
8. Security Deposit and Insurance Excess
A security deposit or card pre-authorisation is separate from the insurance excess. The deposit is intended to secure amounts legitimately due under the rental and is not automatically the renter’s maximum liability.
Deposit amounts and applicable procedures vary by vehicle and are communicated before confirmation. Unused card holds are requested for release after the rental and account are checked, with final release timing controlled by the card issuer or bank.
9. Main Exclusions and Prohibited Uses
Insurance coverage may be restricted or excluded in circumstances stated in the actual policy, such as driving by an unauthorised or ineligible driver, intoxication, racing, unlawful use, prohibited off-road use, deliberate damage or unauthorised cross-border travel.
ASTERIA’s rights and any renter charges arising from such events remain subject to the actual insurance terms, documented facts, the Rental Agreement and applicable law.
10. Accident, Theft or Damage — What to Do
First ensure personal safety and contact emergency services or competent authorities when needed. Inform ASTERIA as soon as reasonably possible using the contact details below.
Cooperate with the preparation of any police report, accident statement, photographs or other documentation required by law or the insurer. Do not admit liability on behalf of another party or arrange substantial repairs without ASTERIA’s prior agreement, except where immediately necessary for safety.
For practical steps, read our Accident & Breakdown guidance .
11. Breakdown and Assistance
If a vehicle develops a mechanical problem, park safely, stop using it if continued driving could create a danger or further damage, and contact ASTERIA promptly.
Roadside assistance, towing and any replacement vehicle depend on the circumstances, availability and coverage applicable to the rented vehicle. Additional charges, if any, must be consistent with the Rental Agreement and applicable law.
12. Passengers, Personal Belongings and Optional Protections
The motor policy may have specific guarantees, limits or exclusions relating to occupants, the driver and personal property. Do not assume that personal belongings or the renter’s own injuries are fully insured.
Any genuinely available optional protection will be described before purchase, including its cost, coverage, exclusions and effect, if any, on the insurance excess. No optional product is included unless explicitly confirmed.
13. Claims, Assessment and Disputes
Damage or loss claims will be reviewed against vehicle inspection reports, accident records, invoices or estimates, insurer findings and other relevant evidence. ASTERIA may provide an itemised explanation and supporting documentation for sums sought from the renter.
Customers may dispute an assessment and contact ASTERIA for an amicable review. Any unresolved matter is subject to the Rental Agreement and applicable Moroccan law, without restricting mandatory consumer rights.
14. Moroccan Insurance Supervision — ACAPS
In Morocco, insurance companies and intermediaries are supervised by the Autorité de Contrôle des Assurances et de la Prévoyance Sociale (ACAPS). For independent information about insurance regulation and policyholder protection, visit the official ACAPS website . ACAPS is the Moroccan insurance supervisory authority, not ASTERIA’s insurer and not a provider of coverage for a particular rental. The policy issued for the rented vehicle and applicable law determine the actual guarantees, exclusions and insurance excess.
